Neff Davis is an aspiring filmmaker working as a hotel concierge who got swept up in Anna Delvey's web.

History[]

Meeting Anna[]

Neff was working as a concierge at 12 George when Nico, a bellhop, indicated that the guest coming in was generous with her money. She passed the message on to Carlos, a junior manager, who took over checking Anna in. Once she got Anna's name, Neff went into the office and wrote Anna's name on the VIP board. When Carlos complained about Anna being needy, though she tipped well, Neff stepped in to make sure Anna got everything she asked for, including the best table in the hotel restaurant. She then comped a $400 bottle of wine for Anna to have with dinner. She also got Anna into Le Coucou, which Anna thanked and tipped her for.

After this, Anna came to the desk while Neff was helping another guest. Neff instructed Anna to wait in line, but when Anna started putting $100 bills on the desk, Neff moved to help her instead and called another concierge for the guest. Neff began to schedule everything for Anna at this point. She called around the city and got Anna onto all the VIP lists, giving her access wherever she wanted to go.

When Neff saw that Anna was having a hard time getting one of her dinner guests, Conrad Lewis, to leave at the end of the night, she stepped in, pretending that Anna had an urgent call. While Anna moved to take the call, Neff showed Conrad to the front door, where she said Nico would help him get a ride home. Once he was gone, Neff told Anna she was shocked at how relentless Conrad had been. Anna then invited Neff to a party with her.

Neff went to the party. At the party, she met many of Anna's friends, including Martin Shkreli and Gavin Peterson. They talked about the Fyre Festival, a recent failure and Martin played The Carter V album, which he had despite it not being released at the time. At the end of dinner, they all threw their credit cards on the table and Anna selected one, Martin's, to pay the bill. Afterward, Neff said it was one of the best nights of her life.

After some time, Anna introduced Neff to Rachel DeLoache Williams, who worked for Vanity Fair and had been friends with Anna for a while. Rachel joined them at an infrared sauna, which Anna said the hotel should put in.

Neff then arranged for Kacy Duke to train Anna. She and Rachel went along and enjoyed a vigorous workout while Anna had a more relaxed one. At the end, Neff was struggling, while Rachel said it was pretty easy and said the trick was keeping your body in shape. Kacy heard her say this and told her to be kind, prompting her to apologize to Neff.

The four of them continued to hang out together. At the end of one such night, Neff and Anna lay drunk together in Anna's bed and talked about their pasts and how it led them to where they were. Neff shared her dream of being a director.

Neff started to get suspicious of Anna when Charlie and Gaby Rosen, whose father owned the building Anna claimed she was leasing, told her that their father had never heard of Anna. Neff then learned that the hotel never got a credit card on file for Anna and Neff was sent to get one. When Neff asked, Anna said she'd get it later. Neff was then forced to pay for their dinner when all of Anna's cards were declined.

The next day, Neff repeated her request for a card, but Anna said housekeeping was in her room, so she couldn't get it and invited Neff to go shopping with her. Extra suspicious, Neff went to Greg, the restaurant captain, and asked if Anna had been paying her bills. He said she had, but her credit card had been hacked, so for the last few weeks, she'd billed her meals to her room. At this point, Neff learned that Anna owed the hotel nearly $34,000. Neff went to a store where Anna was shopping and confronted her over it, but Anna told her she was crazy.

Because Anna had not paid the bill, Jeannot, the manager, locked Anna out of her room and told Neff not to let her in until she'd paid in full. Soon afterward, Anna paid the whole bill by wire transfer and left the hotel, saying she needed a change. She invited Neff to go with her, but Neff didn't have any more days off and needed to keep her job. Anna told her life was for living and left.[1]

Anna's Arrest[]

When Anna unexpectedly left New York for Los Angeles, Neff texted her, but was ignored. Neff hung out with Kacy and Rachel and they looked at Anna's social media, which boasted several photos from LA, upsetting Rachel, who felt the police should find and arrest her. When Anna was eventually arrested in LA, Rachel said she was there when it happened, which Neff found shady.[2]

Interview with Vivian[]

Looking for information on Anna Delvey for a story she was writing following her arrest, Vivian Kent went to the one hotel Anna had stayed at that didn't file charges against her: 12 George. There, Neff showed Vivian the room Anna had stayed in, but claimed she didn't know Anna well, as fraternizing with guests was prohibited. Neff also confirmed that Anna paid the whole bill and tipped with $100 bills.

Vivian confronted Neff after finding pictures of her with Anna, indicating they were friends, despite what Neff had said. Neff then admitted she and Anna had just clicked. But she tried to decline to do an interview, saying she wouldn't sell out her friend. In order to keep Neff from leaving, Vivian asked if she knew Anna was planning to take a deal. Neff said Anna was smart, so if she was taking a deal, it was the right thing to do. Vivian asked Neff what Anna wanted, because she needed Anna not to take the deal. Neff told Vivian that Anna wanted to be famous. Neff later attended Anna's plea hearing, where Anna decided not to take the deal.[3]

Visiting Anna[]

Neff went to Rachel and told her that Anna wasn't taking the plea, so she'd be in Rikers for months while she waited for her trial. She wanted to make a schedule so they could visit Anna to keep her spirits up. Rachel said she wouldn't be visiting Anna in prison, which upset Neff. Neff accused Rachel of turning on Anna because Anna wasn't paying her way anymore. Rachel said that Anna was her friend, but Neff was Anna's paid bitch, a remark that upset Neff, who defied her to say more about the purchase of a Black woman. Rachel turned and ran away from Neff. Neff then went to Kacy to complain about Rachel's refusal. Kacy said that Rachel had her own reasons not to visit Anna and said she also wouldn't be visiting Anna, because the person in prison wasn't the person they thought they knew. The person they thought they knew didn't really exist.

Neff went alone to visit Anna, but after going through security, she wasn't able to go into the visitation room.[4]

Talking to Vivian and Visiting Anna[]

Neff told Vivian that Anna stayed at 12 George, but she didn't know why Anna had stayed there for so long when she had only made brief stops at other places. When Vivian asked if Anna had said anything about her past, Neff reminded her that she had agreed to talk about Anna's stay at the hotel and nothing else. She then told Vivian how she'd met and gotten to know Anna during her stay. She also said that, despite everything, she still believed Anna was rich. After talking to Neff for a while, Vivian realized that Anna had stayed so long for Neff, who was the only person Anna paid back in full. After this conversation, Neff went to Rikers to visit Anna, telling her she'd started shooting her film on her phone.[5]

When Vivian asked Neff about the trip to Morocco, which led to Anna charging $62,000 to Rachel's work credit card, Neff said that Rachel had abandoned Anna and she didn't feel bad for Rachel at all, because Rachel was happy to be Anna's friend as long as Anna was paying for everything, but bailed as soon as that dried up.[6]

Rachel's Article[]

When Rachel wrote an article about Anna that was published in Vanity Fair, Neff came to Vivian's office to say that Rachel was making it sound like she was the victim and wanting to know what Vivian was going to do about it. Vivian said she was going to write her article and let the facts speak for themselves. Neff hung around for a while while Vivian wrote. She talked to Jack about Anna. Neff was still convinced that Anna was for real and her father had just cut her off.[7]

Anna's Trial[]

As Anna prepared for her trial, she called Neff to get the name of a stylist for her trial looks. Neff gave her the name Natasha Lucas and connected the two of them on the phone.

The trial started and when Kacy arrived, Neff explained to her the two sides, though Kacy was determined to remain neutral. When court was delayed because Anna wouldn't get dressed, Neff told her that Natasha had dropped the clothes off. Neff looked into it and found out the clothes were at Rikers and she was unable to reach Natasha. Neff then had to leave for her shift.

When the trial was able to get started, Vivian told Neff that she noticed Anna looking at the small crowd like she wanted more people there. Neff pulled out her phone to take a picture of Anna, but Vivian stopped her, saying only press were allowed to take pictures. Neff tried to get Vivian to take the pictures instead, but Vivian told her to use the photographs the professional photographers in the room were taking.

Neff made an Instagram account and posted pictures from the courthouse. She quickly gained followers and likes, which drew a larger crowd to the courthouse. Kacy confronted Neff about it, saying she knew Neff was behind the account and told her she was making it so Rachel would have to tell her story to a much larger audience. She encouraged Neff to wake up and realize she was Satan's secretary. Neff just said she respected Anna's hustle, including trading anything she could get her hands on for phone time.

After closing statements, Neff and Kacy waited together outside the courtroom while the jury deliberated. Neff asked Kacy for help being patient and Kacy offered the Serenity Prayer, saying her ex is in AA. Once the jury returned, the verdict was read and Anna was found guilty on all but two counts.

Later, Neff saw Kacy reading an advanced copy of Rachel's book about Anna. Neff tried to take it, but Kacy said she wasn't in it much and could read it when it came out. Then Kacy changed her mind and tried to give Neff the book, but Neff didn't take it, saying she'd wasted enough time on that and was going to start living life for herself. She went inside to give notice to her job, but Kacy stopped her and said that Anna had been sentenced to four to twelve years.[8]

Relationships[]

Romantic[]

She is dating Graham, who believed that Anna was just scamming her.[9]

Familial[]

Neff is very close with her mother and moved to New York to figure out who she was without her mother.[10]

Friendships[]

Anna Delvey[]

From their first meeting, Neff was quickly drawn into Anna's charm, most notably her generosity with tipping Neff consistently with $100 bills. Initially Anna, despite tipping her, seemed to simply treat her as a means to an end, but they soon grew more of a relationship after Neff got Anna onto V.I.P lists all over the city. This helped Anna access any places she wanted. Upon finding out that Anna had been racking up a sizable bill with the hotel without any valid means of payment on file, Neff grew cold with her, but they soon made up again. Throughout the events of Anna's imprisonment, Neff remained fiercely loyal to Anna, even attempting to get Kacy Duke and Rachel DeLoache Williams to assist her with attempting to do what they could to ease Anna's time in prison. This is also shown when she initially refused to divulge any information to Vivian Kent about Anna.

Kacy Duke[]

Kacy and Neff became acquainted when Anna invited Neff to come along to a session she'd booked with Kacy. Even after Anna's imprisonment, they continued to have a fairly close friendship, with them meeting up to discuss Anna's arrest and trial. Despite it initially seeming that relationship was frayed when Kacy refused to meet Anna in prison, they still seemed to have a friendship afterwards. Kacy managed to get Neff to take action and further progress her dreams of being a director.

Career[]

She worked as a concierge at 12 George Hotel while saving money to make a film. After Anna was arrested, Neff told her she was making her film on her days off.
