History[]
Vivian's Article[]
Landon was in a meeting with some other editors when Vivian came in and pitched the story of Anna Delvey aka Anna Sorokin, who had just been indicted on several fraud charges. London reminded her that Paul assigned her stories and Paul insisted that she do the Wall Street #MeToo story he'd assigned her to. Landon said he expected copy in three weeks. However, she continued to work on the Anna Delvey story, which Landon found out about when the DA's office called his office to give no comment. Landon called Paul and Vivian into a meeting, where Paul ranted about Vivian going around him. Landon asked Paul to give them the room and Vivian told him about Paul refusing to give her any good stories and moving her desk to Scriberia, which Landon denied was a thing. Vivian asked him to give her a month. He agreed to give her two weeks. When Paul came back, he was upset that Landon caved, but Landon told him that in a few months, Vivian would be on maternity leave.[1]
When Vivian's two weeks was up, she showed Paul and Landon what she had. Landon was impressed and told her to take a few more weeks on it.[2]
Vanity Fair printed an article about Anna written by one of her former friends, Rachel DeLoache Williams. Paul was angry because he felt Vivian had been scooped and wanted them to cut their losses and cancel her article. Vivian said she hadn't been scooped because Rachel's story wasn't journalism and didn't hold a candle to her own article. Landon told Vivian to finish her article and he'd decide then.[3]
When the published article became their best performing piece in five years, Landon asked her what she wanted to do next.[4]
After the verdict was read in Anna's trial, Landon told Vivian the traffic had spiked on her article again and over four million people had read it worldwide. He asked Vivian to do a follow-up, but while he and Paul were discussing it, Vivian walked out.[5]
